Who is gynecomastia surgery for?
Men who are not happy with the excess fatty/breast tissue in the chest and would like a more masculine appearance of their chest.
What is the gynecomastia surgery like?
This procedure is done under general anesthesia and usually takes about 2 hours. This is a 1 day surgery. You do not stay in the hospital overnight. Gynecomastia can be treated in different ways including liposuction and the removal of excess skin, fat, and breast tissue.
What are the risks of this procedure?
Risks of this procedure include but are not limited to: Anesthesia risks, Bleeding, Infection, Fluid collection (Seroma) , Pain, Changes in nipple or breast sensation, Need for revision surgeries, Poor scarring.
What would my scars look like?
Incisions made during gynecomastia surgeries typically depend on where the most fatty/breast tissue is located within the chest. The scars are usually hidden within the outer aspect of the areola.
What is recovery from gynecomastia surgery like?
After the surgery you will leave the hospital with a compressive binder around the chest. During the first few days following the procedure, you may feel pain and discomfort. This initial discomfort is controlled with oral pain medication. You may also have small tubes placed under the skin to drain any of the remaining fluid if necessary.
When can I go back to work and start exercising again?
Light activity can be resumed after the first week. Aerobic exercises and upper body weight lifting can be resumed in about 6 weeks. You may return to work in about 1-4 weeks, depending on the type of job you have.
