What is neck lift surgery?
This procedure improves visible signs of aging that may be present in the jawline and neck. This procedure can treat excess skin, excess fat, loose neck skin, and muscle banding that is present in the neck.
What is the procedure like?
This procedure is done in the operating room under general anesthesia or IV sedation. This is a 1-day surgery. You do not stay in the hospital overnight. Excess skin is removed from the areas of concern and absorbable sutures are placed. Liposuction is also an option.
What are the risks of this procedure?
Risks of this procedure include but are not limited to: Anesthesia risks, Bleeding, Loss of hair around the incisions, Elevated hairline, Eye irritation or dryness, Facial asymmetry, Facial nerve injury with weakness or paralysis, Fluid accumulation, Infection, Numbness or other changes in skin sensation or intense itching, Pain, which may persist, Poor wound healing, Possibility of revision surgery, Skin loss, Unfavorable scarring
What would my neck lift scars look like?
The most common scars for neck lift surgery extend from the hairline around the ears, down and around the ears, and ends at the posterior ear hair line.
What is recovery like?
After surgery, a compressive bandage will be placed around the neck to help with any swelling. You will have to keep your head elevated and facing forward as to not turn or twist your neck. It may take several weeks to months for swelling to fully go down and 6 months for incision lines to mature.
When can I go back to work and start exercising again?
Patients can usually return to work in about 1-2 weeks. Any strenuous activity should be avoided for 4 weeks.
